Subject: Some tests with OSA 5 Dear Carol Anne, OSA 5 is almost done, and at last I had some time and possibility to test somewhat spectral extraction from JEM-X. Data from Revs. 0044 and 0170 were used, scws with off-set angles smaller than 3 deg. Running jemx_ science_analysis I used all default settings. Two attached figures show comparison with the Crab canonical model (slope 2.1, normalization 9.7, absorption 0.285). Spectra from OSA 5 are shown with black and OSA 4.2 with white. For both JEM-X 1 and JEM-X 2, compared to OSA 4.2, the absolute normalization in OSA 5 is in better agreement with the canonical value, spectra seem to be a little bit smoother, and only for 0044 the spectrum is slightly steeper than model above 10 keV. However, the feature around 5 keV is still present. The intrinsically narrow line at this position should have about 0.9 keV FWHM, then it may be really something artificial, because that feature is quite narrow. Could you please provide me a more detailed "howto" on extraction spectrum from raw data? I think I will try to test this possibility. The link given by you in the last email seems to not work: http://spacecenter.dk/~oxborrow/sdast/sdast_forum.html with error: The requested URL /~oxborrow/sdast/sdast_forum.html was not found on this server. Maybe there are some changes? Do you know what the overideCollTilt parameter was set to? What response file was used? Cheers, Stefan
