Subject: JEM-X mosaic - wishlist Hello Jerome, Peter & Roland: Niels Joergen and I have discussed what input we could give for the preparation of a user friendly mosaic tool. We assume that the tool will be working from a list of basic image files (normally each file corresponds to a given science window and energy range). But we feel it would be convenient if the tool itself checks the properties of each file in the list against a number of simple selection conditions, the tool should not assume that all files in the list must be included in the mosaic. However the more complex selections should be left to the person defining the file list. 1) Specification of the output image. - Range of RA (J2000) for the image. - Range of dec (J2000) for the image. (the possibility to specify in galactic longitude and latitude is also very desirable) - The pixel size of the output image. - Quality criteria to be applied to each output pixel before the completed image is output. (The purpose is to eliminate noisy regions of the image). We can think of the following criteria: - minimum effective exposure - maximum relative rms 2) Selection of input images to include. - instrument selection (JEMX 1 or 2 or both) - energy range (energy band) - time period - pointing restrictions - minimum effective observation time - type of input image (raw_mosaic, no_source, source_only ..) 3) Input image processing and pixel selection - image filtering (removal of large scale trends) - zero offset to add to variance map at pixel level - maximum off-axis angle to accept at pixel level - minimum variance value to accept at pixel level - minimum sky exposure to accept at pixel level Niels & Niels Joergen
