SUMMARY OF JEM-X MONDAY MEETING #83: Monday 2nd January 2006 Present: Niels Lund, Soeren Brandt, Niels-Joergen Westergaard, Jerome Chenevez Carol Anne Oxborrow, Carl Budtz-Joergensen Happy New Year to everyone! Instrument status: nothing unusual to report during holiday. Some hotspot activity while looking at Cas A which is quite strong. SB has done an analysis of HV-corrected gain versus ` orbits in use' and found a very strong and consistent linear trend. So gain aging continuing as usual. SB has showed figure of energy resolution averaged over each revolution which indicates hotspot has slightly worsened the resolution, which is not a surprise. SB also taken a look at JEM-X1 rev 39 diagnostic data to find any structure in the histogram of `ticks since last event'. Below 20 ticks there are 3 sharp dips (most pronounced at low energy) that suggest something interesting is happening with the low energy sensitivity. SB would like more diagnostic data to be taken, possibly during next OMC flatfield, to study this potential problem more closely. NL says we will be waiting till after the Earth observations to lower the HV though SB's figure indicates this should be done fairly soon. JC has found only 2 new dead anodes in 2005: 172, not strongly dead (040/08/2005) and 90 ( 27/12/2005). Spectral Extraction: Not much news on this. PIF calculations have been taken out of j_ima_iros and made into separate modules that can be used by both iros and source extraction. NL still working on modelling collimator correctly, and latest results show some unexpected stripes. Alignment studies: CBJ still working on this using his `bootstrapping' method. Off axis see a clear parallax effect due to different penetration lengths of events in detector gas, with increasing position offset with higher energies. All results depend on goodness of CBJ's position determination, though these do contain effect of collimator tilt. Mosaicking: ISDC wants variance maps changed so that they show actual sigma values divided by average deviation. JC's program needs to be re-structured to do this, though it does already contain the essential functionality. Earth Observations: Remember, they're coming soon! Miscellaneous: NL will be going to ISDC as instrument representative this month. SB will be going to MOC as instrument representative to do maintenance on our equipment and software there: some incompatibility between our instrument station software and various versions of Windows that need to be sorted out.
