Summary of DSRI JEM-X Status Meeting: Monday 10th Feb 2004
	

1) Instrument status. 
	Recently had one automatic shutdown of about 1 hour
	due to high countrates. Otherwise no surprises this week.
	
2) Patches. 
	When do we want software patches performed? NL wants to do memory
	patching on JEM-X1 12 days before Crab calibration to check that
	both instrument and patch work well before calibration. No apparent
	problems with generating the patch. We may need more telemetry 
	so as not to lose data to grey filtering. NL to raise this at next ISWT.
	SB to make statistics on how much data lost to grey filtering.
	
3) Munich Workshop.
	No one's yet completed their posters or presentations. NL may have to
	withdraw his `Obscured Sources' presentation: he'll be in Paris 
	tomorrow. Final deadline for papers in the Proceedings is end of
	March. No good weak sources found by NJW's survey work, though many
	spurious sources. Hard to know which are spurious and which aren't.
	SB has found a nice burst with a clear pre-burst peak, but 
	unfortunately it's not public data. $U 1730-333 is a rapid burster
	with peaks at 500-600 second intervals, due to clumpy accretion onto
	the neutron star. Current catalogues are insufficient to determine
	whether a source really is new or not. JC using mosaicking to find
	weak sources. Analysed GX5-1 for Ada, but power law fit is poor above
	25 KeV. NJW suggests comparison with ISGRI data to check for excess
	hard counts. We've done GRS-1915 analysis for Diana. Cyg X-1 analysis
	for Miguel Mas-Hesse to compare with OMC results needs doing, but who's
	got time? CBJ sees clear misalignment (arc minutes) of collimator for
	sources within 3 deg.s of axis. Background can be checked by studying
	pulsating sources, (e.g. Vela pulsar) comparing shadowed and illuminated
	parts of the detector. Stefan uses this method for flux leakeage.
	
4) Crab Calibration.
	Not so important to have someone at ISDC for the calibration if the
	patching can be done well in advance and the health of JEM-X1 checked.
	NL and JC on holiday during week 1-8 March, and Ib is away until
	4th March. Calibration is 28, 29 Feb and 1-4th March. 2nd March is
	co-ordination meeting at ISDC. SB will be our representative.
