Subject: JEM-X Monday Meeting 2007-05-02 Date: Wed, 2 May 2007 14:17:49 +0200 (MEST) Participants: CAO, SB, JC, CBJ, NL, NJW. JEM-X status (SB): We are now in eclipse-season. The usual recovery problem occurred at begin of revol. 555 (2007-04-30). MOC loaded the memory patches again and restarted the system that then functioned well. There is no loss of data because this was done before nominal science data acquisition was no started. Due to the eclipse the detector has been cooled and the gain starts very low. A very weak hot spot is present, but at very low signals, so no impact on images. Anode loss (JC): RAWX=103 has been lost. The loss rate seems to have gone up which is worrying, although the statistical significance is low. Crab calibration meeting (SB): Next week the inter-calibration meeting, IACHEC, will take place in California. INTEGRAL will be represented by Jean-Pierre Roque and Elizabeth Jourdain. The discrepancy between ISGRI and SPI can be resolved by a ad hoc broken powerlaw 2.11 below 90 keV and 2.3 above. The JEM-X spectral index is at the low end, but the influence of the detector energy resolution must be investigated. There are several aspects: The change of gain across the detector gives an additinal term, the detector resolution has degraded from 9.5% to about 11% (at 22 keV). Note that there might be deviations from the square-root law. We should send a viewgraph or a statement on the JEM-X spectrum and continue the work to find the absolute normalization. GS Coordination meeting (SB): Discussion about dither patterns to introduce COP: Change Of Pattern i.e. change the center of the pattern for each cycle. At the 100 microsecond level there may be timing problems as seen from the Crab pulsar observations. Future operations: The Bear Lake telemetry station may become part of the data transmission system as a replacement for the Redu Station, but it has not yet been defined what needs to be done. MOC continues to make plans to operate XMM and INTEGRAL with the same crew to save money. The usermanual must probably be updated to incorporate the experiences both from the operators and from the JEM-X team. Mission Extension Review (SB): Put some emphasis on the resistance of the electronic components to external radiation. Else we are waiting for feedback to our report. Extra TM packets for JEM-X (SB): For the moment the rising background makes it impossible for IBIS and SPI to spare some TM packets. The next coordination will be around next Crab calibration. /NJW
