SDAST Meeting #136: Monday 16th April 2007 Present: SB, NL, CBJ, CAO, JC Instrument Status: No hotspots, but two weak hot-strips. Pointing files appear to be empty after download from ISDC using NJW's scripts. We don't really understand how to use NJW's scripts while he's away. Perhaps they should be streamlined into a single idl tool. NJW returns from Australia tomorrow. MEOR (Mission Extension Operations Review): SB collecting material for a presentation. CBJ to make his own ppt presentation on gain increase and ion drift in the microstrip plate. Discussion as to how much JEM-X would benefit from earlier activation while still within the radiation belts, with first few SCWs flagged as bad due to instrument stabilization. Calibration sources continue to weaken (as expected!) but this will not be a problem for some time since we have several s/w procedures in place to handle this, which are barely used at the moment. ISDC Consortium Meeting: NL will be our rep at ISDC. CBJ needs to talk to Stephane about his software. NL will present JC's latest burster (mixed burning) paper. He should also look at the instrument station and clear off old files from C:/EGSE/data drive. We'll need to upgrade this machine in the near future, but to what? NL also needs to talk to RW about the MEOR and what ISDC plans to contribute to the "Support of Analysis Software" section. Calibration and GS Coordination Meeting: SB will be in Toulouse next week. What do Crab spectra REALLY look like? SB and CBJ to make presentation on cross-calibration. Coordination meeting will discuss dithering and randomization rather than repetition. S/C timing is no longer as stable as it once was. Russians are offering Bear Lake ground station as a cheaper replacement for Redu for INTEGRAL. It will also be used for the refurbished SRG presumably. TM usage must also be discussed. AO5: JC making proposals to 2 KPs with source lists to cover known bursters (long burster project) and also to get data access for detection of unknown bursters. Cygnus would be better than extragalactic fields. We are also on proposals with Erik Kuulkers, Jerome Rodriguez, Massetti (rapid bursters), Marco Ferocci (SGRs) and Kevin Hurley (TOO SGRs). Deadline for proposals is this Friday. Aarsfest at DTU: JC and CBJ representing us. Communications department providing a professional triptych display stand. As well as INTEGRAL model, CBJ has arranged for lab spare to be transported to DTU by a moving company. CAO to retrieve demo mask from the joint NBI workshop. Kroppedal Museum has also asked to have the flight spares of WATCH and JEM-X to display till the end of the year (email to NL). It was generally agreed this was a bad idea for JEM-X. UMV Document (Allan's email): NL has made list of our key collaborators for JEM-X. These are mostly technical collaborators bound by contracts and MOUs. Scientific partners are somewhat less formal inasmuch as their are no binding contracts with them. Science Results: JC found some activity he didn't think was a burst in detector lightcurves from OID 545, PID 21: SB and CBJ think it's just solar noise. SB looked at TOO for SGRs and found 5 bursts coinciding with ISGRI detections. Where JEM-X sees a double peak (duration less than 1 second) of about equal sizes ISGRI sees second peak only a fraction of size of first peak - presumably due to saturation effects in JEM-X and differences in energy ranges. SB also found 2 bursts from IGR J17597-2201 each with e-folding time of about 5 seconds on April 8th, OID 547, PID 45. Positions determined with CBJ's software. CAO 16/4/2007
