Just a precision: mosaic_spec does not use the exposure for some calculation,
but it does read the exposure map.
If the exposure extension does not exist, one gets the following warning from
mosaic_spec:
Warn_1  2008-01-28T08:08:29 mosaic_spec 1.7: No image with ( IMATYPE ==
'EXPOSURE' )&& NEAR( E_MIN , 3.040000 ,0.100000 )

If the exposure extension does exist, then one gets the exposure value at the
given coordinates, for example:
Log_0   2008-01-28T08:09:08 mosaic_spec 1.7:    xmax =   238,  ymax =    62,
exposure  =     937 sec
