CAO's plans for OSA 5.0: misalignment matrix; detector status map output; anti-glitches; gain aging IMOD parameters New fixed SDAST chat day and time: Wednesdays, 11.00, every second week. CAO to send warnings and agendas Action Items: None. **** Logging Started : Thu Feb 03 10:59:30 MET 2005 > Hi Silvia, and NJW! How are you doing, Silvia, it must be lovely to be > finished with your thesis. Peter and Stefan cannot be with us, so I think Hej Carol Anne and Niels Joergen ! *** jerome (~jerome@oso.dsri.dk) has joined channel #jemxadr > we're only waiting for Jerome. END Hello Silvia - how is life ? Yes, it is great to have nearly over the Thesis. Now I am fighting to get a date for the defence END > Hi Jerome! Now that we're all here, I suggest that we each give a quick Hello Silvia! Only you from outside Dk... > summary of what we're working on for OSA5.0, and then Jerome can say a bit > about ISDC rotation, like: who's supposed to be there in February? > Comments? END OK. No comments. Shall I start? > Yes Please, JC. END I am little late (about a week or so) on my work with j_ima_mosaic, but I can soon see the other end of the tunnel... My main problem is trying to imagine all possible situations in the coming input images to the mosaic S/W because they are supposed to be both NJW's images or NL's images and it that last case there can be different kind of sky maps (with or without sopurces, etc.) sorry: sources Then I have to modify a bit some CFITSIO calls because I used them for read from ASCII files and not FITS files I have to use DAL or DAL3GEN routines instead My worry is that I may not reach to implement the promised new WCS routines in time, beacuse there have been strange problems in that respect with NL's images and coordinates system. Question? END Can you state the chance of having a beta version running in 14 days ? END That is an expansive question Niels Jørgen, but I am quite optimistic... In 14 days, I would say 80% I hope this is not a call to bad luck... END > Thanks f or that very complete summary Jerome. NJW would you go next? END The main task is to get j_ima_iros running within the ISDC system. The largest achievements are: Shadowgrams from j_ima_shadowgram are read in, various instrument data are stored in JMXi-IMOD-GRP, images are output in the JMXi-SKY.-IMA-IDX group, a new JMXi-BPL.-GRP is to be submitted as an IC file (FITS reading and writing is now in place). The missing part is the setting up of JMXi-SRCL-RES, but that I should be able to take from j_ima_src_find. There is a very good chance that we can deliver for OSA5 END > Well that all sounds good - just so long as we all know where the obstacles > are. Thanks NJW. What about you Silvia, to what extend exactly will you PS: Other tasks: IMOD opdate and spectral calibration using rev 239 END > be taking over the scripts? END I am afradi I can not answer this question now As you may knnow, I have applied for a position in Madrid to work with Peter My involvement inside JEM-X softwar team will depend on my position to this year. If I stay in Valencia, I will increase my involvement inside the team If I am going to Madrid, I do not know END > I thought you had a semi-permanent position as a researcher at Valencia. > What are the chances of you going to Madrid? END No, Carol Anne the Valencia position is only until June 2007 and it has to be re-newed every year depending on the project fundings. I am not sure about my chances in Madrid. I hope to get an answer about my job application by this week. END > We'll keep our fingers crossed for you - even if it could mean another > reduction in our SDAST wo(man)power! What about your involvement up to > the OSA 5.0 freeze (end of March?) END I am afraid Peter will take care again of the OSA 5.0 delivery since I intend to defence my Tehsis on March 12th Tehsis = Thesis END > Okay, that's for that summary Silvia, so we know where we all stand. Now > my turn: > top of the priority list is making a new misalignment matrix since Stefan > mentioned this as a possible cause of spectral extraction problems, and > any improvement with the new matrix needs to propogate to the end of the > pipeline, and give SL a chance to improve his software even if the new > matrix doesn't improve things at that end. I've no idea how to do this or > how long it will take, but I'll circulate the matrix to you all for your > OSA 5.0 testing ASAP. Next is getting a version of j_cor_position that > outputs the detector map/status table, since this functionality must also > propogate down the line with everyone else reading from and adding to such > a table, or index of tables. > After that comes the various bugs: anti-glitches produced by j_calib_gain_fitting; > zero input found by same program (patchy gain history tables in rev_2 > processing, found by Bruce and me at ISDC) - still don't know what the > problem is here, but it's probably very trivial; > Finally, finding detector `aging' factors for the different IMOD epochs and > making a tool to do this relatively quickly, so that these can be delivered > with the OSA 5.0 suite of IMOD tables. > Basically, I'm going to be VERY busy the next 2 months. Any comments? > END Thanks, Carol Anne, I have no comments, but I'm very happy that you will deal with the misalignment question END I have one question: No comments. END No, sorry, i have just answer the question myself... :) END > Can you tell us about the ISDC rotation, especially for the immediate > future, Jerome? END Well, I do not really know what to say... I have sent an email around 3 weeks ago and I got exactly 0 answers! Now, if I understand that we cannot really reckon on Silvia either > Here's the planned rotation as it's posted on the Developper's Forum: > CAO: January SL: February NL: March SMN: April SB: May PC: June CBJ: September PK: October NJW: November JC: December that let only 6 of us left (all from DNSC). Yes,. from my email it should be Stefan the next in February, but do we know if he has sufficient funds for that travel? Otherwise, the next on the list is Niels. I think I have understood however that Peter is willing to take his part of the rotation Otherwise, if there is only us 6 from DNSC, so we can just discuss this issue internally ? END > Can you bully someone to go there this month? We really need one every month. In my case, as before it will depend of my position for this year > Yes the bullying and discussing can be done internally. END I will send an e-mail to Jereome as soon as posible with my or not availability END We'll discuss this question at the Monday meeting later today END > That's a good idea NJW. I will satrt to ask Stefan directly for a clear answer. END > I think generally, we should keep our chat meetings to a fixed day and time, > so that people can plan around them rather than expect them to be moved all > the time. This moveable chat-time doesn't seem to be working. comments? END I wonder... I agree - perhaps we should make them more frequent and shorter, so we have a If there will be only us from DNSC in the near future to chat with, is it still necessary??? END chat irrespective of the number of participants END The 'Peter connection' is still vital, I think END > I agree with both of you - shorter, more frequent meetings, possibly face-to-face > once everyone but Peter has migrated from the project. END > We always have good email contact with Peter - it's not for his benefit, > or ours we hold these meetings. Also, if the AI list's to function at all > we need regular checks on its status. END Yes, that is the point: without Sami and Stefan, why do we still need to chat? END I don't agree completely here. The chats are often a good occasion to sum up the situation (e.g. as today) - this does not happen so often with emails. END I think the chat should be done from time to time, may be every two weeks and we should fix the time and date. END > Yes, summaries and status round up from everyone is also important.END > That > s a good idea silvia. How about 11.00 on Wednesdays, every other week, > beginning next week, just to see how it goes? Any preferred days or times? > END 11 a.m on Wednesdays is ok with me ! END OK OK, and please with your usual warnings, Carol Anne! END > Warnings and agenda will be provided. END > Any other business? END N N N Good bye then, lunch is calling, have a nice time END *** njw has left channel #jemxadr : (njw) Hej, hej ... *** silvia has left channel #jemxadr : (silvia) Au-revoir! *** jerome has left channel #jemxadr : (Quit)
